Communications Options

Communication in online and face to face classes is very straightforward. The very nature of online courses limits the options for communication. In a hybrid course, however, you have many choices for methods of communication.

When deciding which methods to use, think about the characteristics of each method, the objective for the communication and how this objective can best be met.

For example, if you would like to use a discussion to stimulate community within the class, it might be best to try a discussin held in person if you have the time before moving it to a forum online. There is no one answer to the communication question, but with all the options available, there is a good possibility that at least one solution exists that will fit your particular situation and communication goals. For more details on facilitating communication within your course, see the Discussion section of Pedagogy and Techniques.
